The 492nd Fighter Squadron ‘Madhatters’ are winding up a five-week training ‘roadshow’ in the US. Based at RAF Lakenheath, UK, under the 48th Fighter Wing, the unit headed Stateside to initially participate in Exercise ‘Red Flag’ at Nellis AFB, Nevada, before moving to Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, in mid-August for the ‘Combat Hammer’ air-to-ground and ‘Combat Archer’ air-to-air weapons systems evaluation programs (WSEPs).

These two events enable the squadron’s F-15E aircrews and maintainers to end-to-end test their ability to employ weaponry, doing so over the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR) near to Mountain Home. A full feature on this ‘roadshow’ will apear in the November issue of Combat Aircraft.
