‘KC Hawgs’ in Hawaii

A-10C Thunderbolt IIs assigned to the 442nd Fighter Wing from Whiteman AFB, Missouri, have deployed to MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, arriving on February 11 for training exercises across the Hawaiian islands, working alongside USMC units.

The unit comes off the back of hosting the biennial ‘Hawgsmoke’ competition from October 17-20 at Whiteman. The chance to work alongside Marine Corps units is a good example of how different elements of the US military can conduct combined, unit-level, training, rather than working in their individual stovepipes. The A-10’s are kings of close air support — a mission that is also core to Marine Corps’ operations doctrine.
