Canada re-launches fighter program

The Royal Canadian Air Force has re-launched its long-running competition for a new fighter aircraft to replace its ageing CF-188s. Ottawa has issued a draft request for proposals for 88 new fighters to five companies: Airbus Defence and Space for the Eurofigher Typhoon, Boeing for the F/A-18E/F or Advanced F-15, Dassault for the Rafale, Lockheed Martin for the F-35 and Saab for the JAS 39 Gripen.

Feedback to the draft will form the foundation of a final RFP leading to contract award in late 2021/early 2022 and initial operating capability in 2026.
