T-X award — coming soon…

Photo: USAF

Speculation is rising that the US Air Force will announce the winner of its T-X trainer competition at the Air Force Association annual symposium in Washington that runs September 17-19, or shortly thereafter. The USAF has said the contract will be awarded by the end of the current fiscal year (September 30), so the award could fall outside AFA.

The initial 350-aircraft requirement to replace the T-38 Talon sees Boeing/Saab’s ‘clean-sheet’ design going head-to-head with Leonardo DRS’ T-100 (Based on the M-346 Master) and the Lockheed Martin T-50A.
