The Royal New Zealand Air Force has ordered four Boeing P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. New Zealand becomes the fifth export customer for the type, following Australia, India, Norway and the UK.

The New Zealand order is worth $1.6 billion and it was announced by Minister of Defence Ron Mark today. The P-8s will replace the RNZAF’s heavily modified Lockheed P-3K2 Orions from 2023 and will be based at Ohakea.
