Aero Vodochody eyes OA-X market

Czech manufacturer Aero Vodochody says it is aiming to offer a new light attack aircraft to the US Air Force to meet its OA-X requirement.

The aircraft are likely to be an upgraded version of either the L-39NG or the L-159, the latter of which is proving popular with Draken International in the contracted aggressor role at Nellis AFB, Nevada.

Aero Vodochody says it has requested to join USAF light attack evaluations, which currently feature the AT-6 Wolverine and A-29 Super Tucano.

Although the USAF doesn’t currently have a program of record, it may eventually lead the flying branch to purchase 300 of them for supporting ground troops in areas where air defenses are minimal or nonexistent.
