An Israeli Air Force (IAF) F-16I Sufa was shot down in the border region with Syria this morning following a strike on a Command and Control facility at al Mezza, Damascus, in Syria. The Syrian Air Defense Forces reportedly shot the F-16 down using S-200 surface-to-air missiles.

The incident followed an Israeli AH-64D Apache helicopter intercepting an Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) UAV that had infiltrated Israeli airspace. In response, Israel attacked the Iranian UAV control facility in Syrian territory. Israel says 12 targets were attacked, including three Syrian aerial defense batteries and four Iranian targets in Syria.

The F-16s were engaged with multiple Syrian SAMs, with one F-16 downed. The two pilots ejected safely and the aircraft came down in northern Israel.
